The study of Dance is intended to provide training and performance opportunities for both beginner and more experienced high school students interested in furthering their knowledge and skill level.

The study of Dance at Louis St. Laurent is intended to provide training and performance opportunities for both beginner and more experienced high school students interested in furthering their knowledge and skill level while earning high school credit.

Program Features - Junior High

Discover your passion for movement in a fun, professional, and supportive environment.

Students explore a wide range of styles from Hip Hop to Lyrical while building foundational technique. Each year, dancers grow their skills in performance, rehearsal etiquette, musicality, and teamwork. Every semester concludes with a full-scale showcase at a local professional theatre, giving students an authentic performance experience.

Dance 7

The focus in class will be on basic ballet, jazz, and contemporary technique, including foot and arm positions, as well as basic jumps, turns, and combinations. Dance styles studied will include, but will not be limited to, ballet, jazz, modern/contemporary, hip-hop, cultural, and lyrical dance.  

Dance 8

This fun and energetic dance class is designed for students with three years or less of consistent dance training in jazz, contemporary, ballet or modern dance. This full year course focuses on basic ballet, jazz and contemporary technique, including foot and arm positions, as well as basic jumps, turns and combinations. Dance styles studied will include, but will not be limited to, ballet, jazz, modern/contemporary, hip-hop, cultural and lyrical dance. It is offered as both a single semester or full-year course, where part of the time is spent on technical development and part of the time is spent on creating and learning choreography. There is a large focus on performance in full year courses. 

Dance 9

This class is for Dance students who wish to focus and major in elements of contemporary, modern and jazz dance. It is offered as both a single semester or full-year course, where part of the time is spent on technical development and part of the time is spent on creating and learning choreography. There is a large focus on performance in full year courses. 

Program Features - Senior High

Senior High Dance (Dance 15, 25, 35)

Train with purpose and perform with confidence.

Senior High dancers study foundational techniques in ballet, jazz, and lyrical. Dancers are also offered the opportunity to choreograph and create their own routines. Our program focuses on developing artistry, versatility, and technical training. Each semester, dancers rehearse and perform in a professional theatre, gaining real-world performance experience and preparing for post-secondary dance pathways if they choose. 


Louis Crew (Dance Performance 15, 25, 35)

The heartbeat of Louis — high-energy, high-impact, and impossible to miss.

Louis Crew is our school’s resident hip hop performance team and a key part of Louis culture. These dancers deliver show-stopping routines for major school events, and showcases. Known for their energy, commitment, and stage presence, Louis Crew sets the standard for teamwork, and school spirit.

Learn dance technique from a variety of genres, like lyrical, hip-hop, jazz, Broadway, and more!

Junior Louis Crew (Extracurricular)

A dynamic introduction to performance hip hop.

Junior Louis Crew is an after-school program designed for emerging dancers who want to build their hip hop skills and performance confidence. JLC performs at school events and in both our winter and spring showcases.

Louis Elite (Dance Performance 15, 25, 35 — open to Junior High)

For dancers who train at a high level and want to take their creativity and artistry to the next level.

Louis Elite is our advanced performance group for committed dancers seeking an elevated experience. Members work intensively to create choreography, grow their artistry, and take on additional performance opportunities. Louis Elite performs at  major school events, and showcases. All dancers must complete an audition checklist to ensure readiness and placement.
